Where to Find a Cheap Wedding Dress
For most brides, the wedding is all about the dress. Well ok, there’s something about spending the rest of your life with someone…but that reality doesn’t sink in until later. For many, catching a glimpse of the price tag on a designer dress is enough to reduce a bride on a budget to tears. There’s no reason for any bride in this day and age to be deprived of a wedding dress because of a silly thing like money. Let’s explore some of the ways to find a cheap wedding dress.
Something Borrowed – Does your mother or grandmother still have her wedding dress packed away in her attic? What better tribute than to wear a dress that belonged to a special person in your life! Friends and relatives are probably more than happy to let you borrow a wedding dress; all you have to do is ask.
Secondhand Shops – Thrift shops and consignment shops are great places to find inexpensive dresses. Most of them have been worn before and there’s a good chance the dress may have sustained some damage. If rips or slight stains are something you can handle, it might be worth your while to look into this. Make sure it’s THE dress, however. Secondhand shops don’t take too kindly to returns.
Online- The Internet boasts many outlets for inexpensive wedding dresses. Don’t overlook eBay and other online auction houses. I’ve seen dresses priced as low as $35. Make sure you get a full description of the dress as well as a full disclosure of all damage. In addition to auction sites, there are loads of second hand shops and other places where brides are selling their dresses and veils at a fraction of the original cost. Alterations or dry cleaning may be in order, but that’s a small price to pay for a good cause.
There are other ways to find a cheaper dress. Call bridal boutiques and designers to find out if they have any damaged, outdated or discontinued merchandise they’d be willing to let you take at a discount. Many of the smaller boutiques will allow this so they don’t end up with a total loss. Many of these places might be able to help you find discount outlets and sample sales as well.
A bride doesn’t need to spend thousands of dollars on a designer dress to look beautiful on her wedding day. Be creative and open your mind…you’d be surprised at what you can find.
