Tips on Making a DIY Eco-Friendly Bag

eco-friendly newspaper bagSaving the environment may seem like a lofty goal for most, but even the smallest things count and you can start by making and using your own DIY eco-friendly bag.

A resourceful senior was able to create her own DIY eco-friendly bag by carefully choosing scraps from land-filled destined plastic bags and crocheting them together. Of course, you need not limit yourself to crocheting if the idea seems too complicated. Using the sewing machine to stitch patches of cloths and scrap materials together would do just as well or even better.

There are certain factors to consider if you want your DIY eco-friendly bag to be aesthetically pleasing and functional as well.

Firstly, consider the thickness of materials used as this will determine how much weight it will be able to hold.

Straps are always good to have with any bag to become more convenient to carry; make sure, however, that the materials you’ll use for your bag’s straps are of sturdy quality because they often have to carry the weight of your bag’s contents.

There are various non-biodegradable or non-recyclable materials that are still in use today so you don’t have to limit yourself to scraps from plastic bags. Furthermore, these scraps are manufactured in a rainbow of colors, so take your time in looking for the ones that appear most pleasing to your eye. Consider ironing other materials as well to make them easier to sew.

Lastly, consider using rubber as lining for your bag’s flooring and covering the whole bag with used plastic cover from your old books to make it even longer-lasting.
