The Cheap Way to Enjoy a Night Out

by Noel on January 18th, 2007

nightout fund driveOkay, so maybe staying in and renting a movie bothers you.  You’ve probably been doing it for a couple of months and it’s just not F-U-N.  Still itching to go out?  Here are cheap ways to let your hair down without damaging your wallet.

Make full use of your status.
Shops and business establishments offer special prices to certain members of the population such as students, senior citizens, singles, couples and groups.  Check with your local shops and restaurants and take advantage of your special privilege.

Down times are good times.
Businesses try to lure customers in with regular ’specials’ by offering their products at special discounts.  Buffets on midweek are as special as those offered on busy days and happy hours, since I last checked, are as popular as ever.

Thank the sponsors.
If your local community is generous enough to sponsor an event, go and see it if it interests you.  Get to see a play, dance, art exhibition or music event at no cost or for a few dollars, if at all.

Fill up before going out.
You do it when you go for groceries, why not do it when you’re going out for dinner?  Eat a light snack at home and order a smaller-sized meal at the restaurant.  Skip the dessert, though.  They are priced way too high for their true value.

Watch for free nights.
Museums and bookshops offer free admission on special days and/or within a specified time period.  Call them up or check your local papers for the schedule.  If you like bookreadings, check your local establishments for free sessions.  You get to enjoy a night of open-mic poetry and get a glimpse of future literary geniuses at the price of a bottle of beer.
