The Blog of Henry David Thoreau
If you’ve been following along here since the beginning, you’ll know that my biggest simple living hero and mentor is Henry David Thoreau. Henry David kept a series of eloquent journals through the years. Journaling back then - and even now - is very similar to the blogging that folks like myself do these days.
Well, blogger Gregory Perry saw that commonality as well and since 2004 has been running the Blog of Henry David Thoreau. Gregory takes the entries from Henry David’s actual journals - The Journal of Henry David Thoreau, ed. Bradford Torrey and Francis Allen, 14 vols. (Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1906) - and provides a daily blog post of an excerpt from that day’s entry in the Journal.
As Ralph Waldo Emmerson once remarked…
“It was a pleasure and a privilege to walk with him. He knew the country like a fox or a bird, and passed through it as freely by paths of his own…. One must submit abjectly to such a guide, and the reward was great.“
