Sometimes the Best Way to Save Money Is to Let Coupons Expire

by Katelyn Thomas on August 29th, 2008

There is a Walgreen’s coupon available Friday and Saturday this week and I am saving money by letting it expire. It is for $10 off $40 instead of the normal $5 off $20 and I would end up buying things I don’t actually need to reach the $40 total that the coupon requires.

Sometimes, I’ve let coupons that would have only required me to pay tax for an item expire, too. If I don’t need it and noone in the family needs it either, then tax is too much to pay to take it from the store.

How about you? Have you ever used a coupon to save money, only to discover that you’ve actually wasted money?

Oh, if you have $40 worth of stuff you need to buy at Walgreens, it makes sense to go use that $10 off $40. In that case, here is the link to the coupon!

I never step foot in Walgreens. I fired them as my pharmacists after too many problems and waiting forever for refills. If I have a prescription that’s not mail order, I just fill it at Target. It’s always been ready in 15 minutes with much less stress.

Also, I find Walgreens to be overpriced on most items, with far too many expired food items on the shelves.

Your Walgreens may be different than the several bad ones around here…

    Peggy,
Isn’t it funny how some stores can be so different from the rest of the chain? My Walgreen’s used to be a Happy Harry’s and is really clean and stuff doesn’t stay on the shelf anywhere near long enough to expire. In fact, things turn over so fast that it is hard to get three or four of something. I’m sorry to hear yours has been so frustrating to use.

For me, filling prescriptions at Target is frustrating because they are never ready when they are supposed to be and I have to drive back 15 minutes to pick them up the next day if I can’t wait around a long time.

Katelyn, that is funny. My Target has always had the prescriptions ready on time. I do miss the nice interactive refills/prescription history from Walgreens. Maybe one day I’ll try them again if I move to another area! : )
