I have a lot of penny pinching ways that I save. My newest though is that I’m working so much that I don’t have time to spend any money. Today is my day off and I just want to sit here and do nothing.

Most of my tips are things already discussed here. However, one of my favorites is police auctions. I needed a new bicycle this year, so my husband went to a Sat. morning auction. They are usually sold in lots of two, sometimes more. He bought a lot of two bikes for $40. We switched out some of the parts to make one really good bike. The other bike, which still had a good frame and could be easily fixed up, we sold for $15. Not bad. And you can find all sorts of great things there–it’s basically like going to several estate sales all at once.

I’d love a chance at this little jewel. I stopped buying doggie poop bags at the pet store and started using the plastic bags I get at other stores when I forget my cloth shopping bags. I also buy all their stuff toys at Goodwill now for .50, rather than spend 5-10.00 at the big box pet stores. They don’t even know the difference. :)

I noticed that although I have a small efficient car and live not far from work and shopping, my gas expenses were rising. I starting taking my lunch to work, and running shopping, post office, and general errands only on Saturdays. I am spending less on gasoline than when it was much cheaper and I am getting more projects around my home completed and I have more
leisure time as well.

Nothing new to most people, but I try to only go grocery shopping once every two weeks now, instead of almost everyday. I have saved a ton of money that way!

Buy cleaning supplies at the dollar store. For some reason, they have name brands in regular-sized containers for $1. Most other things are not the best deals, but cleaning supplies are cheap there.

It seems that lately I have seen a lot of the same old savings tips over and over. They are all good ideas but a little repetitive. I’d love to get my hands on this book and learn about it

I make my own dish washing soap and all purpose cleaner. I menu plan and only buy things we need for THOSE meals. I also buy from the bulk section to save on flour, grains, beans, and spices. We bought bikes so we can run to the local produce market or library when need be instead of driving. Plus so much more! But I’d love to learn about more of what we can do!

Spray paint–change furniture you don’t like into something you, I mean your wife, does. Also paint bookshelves–cheap bookshelves look better when you paint to match a room.

Hi,
My money saving tips are don’t throw away old bedsheets, think of them as fabric remnants. They make great aprons, pillow cases, and rags, even tear them into strips for rag rugs.
Also any liquid soap bottles you think are empty eg bubble bath, hand soap, shampoo ( homemade if possible, it saves cash )turn the bottle upside down over a bigger bottle and leave for a time, it doesn’t matter if you mix several things but it does make a great soap for handwashing delicate clothes.
I would love to win one of these books I need more ways to save.

I make my own laundry soap, which is a fantastic savings for a family of 10! I also make my own pancake syrup, which is easy to get used to and much, much cheaper!

Learning more ways to be thrifty always sounds great to me…sign me up. Thanks for everyone elses money pinching ideas…there are some great ideas here…one of my ideas is homemade foods, I am a SAHM so at time I have an occasional free minute :) but I make bread and jams when fruit is cheap…a lot cheaper then buying store packaged!!!

Oooh. I save money now by combining trips away from the house into planned routes (for gas savings). If I’m looking for a specific item and am not sure a store will have it, I call ahead. It’s better to sit on hold than drive to a store that doesn’t have the item in stock.

Well, since I knit, I save money by making warm around the house items so we don’t have the run the heater as much.
I also accept yarn from friends who inherited too much and don’t want to keep it. So I can make scarves, gloves and slippers with the only cost being my time!
Also, I drive a scooter, so I get +100 mpg.
I drive it to work, to the laundrymat (necessary evil) and grocery shopping.

saving’s always great - my boyfriend just moved in with me and I will be responsible for grocery-shopping. I love doing that and am eager of cutting down - cutting down - cutting down. We are thinking abour purchasing a house, every penny goes towards saving for that - therefore, every hint and help on how to save more and better is highly appreciated. I live in Austria, we don’t have your elaborate coupon-system here - I would be sooo much into it! Doubling them, combining them - sounds great! Well, I’ll figure out other ways…

New saving-tips would be great - as you wrote, the ones one can find are a little stale by now… I started menu-planning, it’s fun although I haven’t really gotten into it yet. I drive my car ONLY to work, everything else I do by foot or bike. - Just little steps here and there, new ideas would be great!
