Share Your Music

by Deborah Ng on July 9th, 2007

b5.JPGWhen you grow up in a family of eight, the entertainment budget is pretty much non-existent. Still, we were able to find ways to enjoy and share music without spending a lot of money. We all had different tastes; my parents loved classical and opera, I was into blues and some pretty heavy stuff, my brother loved Southern rock, while my sister got into country. Thanks to this diversity, we were all able to share different types of music with each other, allowing us to listen with an open mind.

We didn’t go to concerts or buy music until we started earning our own money, but we found many ways to listen to, and enjoy music.

  • Radio – Radio is free. Whether you’re listening to online radio stations, the car stereo or the kitchen boom box, you can still enjoy music without having to spend money.
  • Free Concerts in the Park – My family loves to pack a dinner picnic and enjoy concerts in the park. This is the time of the year for them. Check your local newspapers for concerts in your neighborhood and surrounding areas.
  • Host a Listening Party – Have a party and invite friends to bring their favorite CDs and MP3s. Listen to everyone’s favorite selections.
  • Host a Music Swap – Friends can either lend each other favorite CDs or swap CDs they no longer want.

I don’t think I know anyone who hasn’t been touched by music in some shape or form. What I like best about today’s music is that I don’t have to purchase whole albums or CDs to hear my favorite music. I can pay for one MP3 and stock my iPod with only my favorites.

b5 Media has also found a great way to share music. We’re pleased to announce the launch of our new Music Channel. Some of the channels include Christian Music, Metal Matyr, Jazz and Blues Lounge, but there’s so much more!

We’re so proud of the new Music Channel, we’re launching a contest! Enter and win one of several prizes including an iPod Shuffle, MP3 Player or iTunes gift certificate. Certainly even the most frugal music lovers can appreciate this deal!

So what are you’re favorite ways to share music?

Deb.. great idea for free entertaiment. But, I’d also like to add that a city’s local schools also have free concerts that are available to the public. My older son played in his middle school band, and they’d have concerts at Christmas time and in the spring–both absolutely free. This is a top-notch music program in Hollister, California, and I’m sure that schools throughout the nation have these free concerts as well. Plus, many schools hold band reviews, which are also open to the pulbic, and allow guests to listen to a variety of schools and their music!
