Saving on Baby Care: Diapers and Milk
Being a parent is a difficult task. One has to think of ways to spread everything thin be it on one’s patience and of course MONEY. But how on earth can one stretch every penny if the commodities are sky rocketing? In times like these, being a parent can be very overwhelming but one can work around these obstacles and savor the joys of parenthood. Here are some ways on saving money on baby care and keeping one’s pocket intact.
Saving on Diapers
Buy in bulk! Get the biggest pack when buying disposable diapers. Manufacturers save on packaging and one does not have to go to the store as often if one opted for the smaller pack. As a bonus, earn more points which you can use to join the numerous promos of the diaper manufacturer. Buy on sale! Shop wholesale. If you spot a diaper sale, hoard! Get hold of the most number of diapers you can afford because this is one of the babies’s most used commodities.
Use disposable diapers only when going out of the house. Use cloth diapers at home. Cloth diapers may be more expensive at the first glance but keep in mind that it can be used over and over and one child after another. Disposable diapers might look cheaper but think of it as your hard earned bills covering your baby’s southern area. Just imagine, the baby poops and pees almost after every feeding especially newborns. When the diaper is soiled or wet, the baby needs to be changed as soon as possible to prevent diaper rash. Phew! Talk about watching money go down the drain.
Wait for the baby to finish doing the deed before changing the diaper. Parents get caught up by the poop touching the skin of their little one so they quickly change the diaper. After painstakingly cleaning the bottom another blow comes out right after they secure the fresh nappy.
Saving on Milk
Breastmilk is best for babies and for the wallet. Formula costs a lot and breastmilk is free. Need I say more? Not only does the baby get a lot of benefits from breastfeeding but the mom also goes back to her pre-pregnancy size quickly and easily. Save money on milk and gym membership. Save on baby medicines and vitamins because research shows that breasfed babies get sick less compared to those on formula.

One thing I would like to point out is that breastfeeding does not have to be an all or nothing proposition. After you’ve established your milk supply (about the first 6 weeks or so) you can move to doing part formula and part breastfeeding, or pumping and breastfeeding and supplementing the pumping with formula, which is still cheaper and healthier than straight formula. The body is an amazing thing, if you nurse your child before work and after work and then use a formula at the sitters during the day, your body will learn to only produce milk in the mornings and evenings in any amount, and you can use formula during the day. Most magazines etc don’t make that clear and make it sound like an either or type of thing.

I agree, buying in bulk is more cost efficient than buying small items regularly.
And breastfeeding should be promoted more, it certainly would cut the costs of hugely expensive baby milks.
