Save on electricity use LCD monitors instead of CRT for your PC
LCD monitors nowadays are very affordable. Good manufacturing practices as well as mass production caused the prices to go down compared to a few years ago.
The power consumption of LCD monitors are about half as their CRT counterpart.
Here’s a nice comparison graph I saw at viewsonic .
This is just a guide for you.
In order for you to fully quantify if it would be better for you to buy an LCD monitor, you need to factor in the purchase price. Last time I checked, LCD monitors still costs more than LCD. Then use your own energy cost so you can come up with a better price comparisons and total cost of ownership.
Cost is just one factor. Some of the non-financial factors is space, beauty, longetivity, and emission.
Here are some CRT vs LCD comparisons

I waited until I was able to get a good deal on an LCD monitor before buying one for home. It’s a widescreen model that has a lot of screen real estate. Last year I bought a new 19″ CRT that was a good deal and that used less energy than one of my old CRTs that had a fuzzy picture.
Now, I have the LCD as my primary monitor, and the new CRT as a secondary monitor that is on a seperate surge protector (with my speakers, lamp, and printer). I only turn that on when I need it to further save money.

I’m saving up for my LCD monitor. Right now I still have a 17″ CRT. I’m waiting for the next big sale. Hopefully, before Christmas.
Either that or a nice dual core laptop. Hopefully the prices will down when quad core comes out.
