Save Money on Medicines

by Noel on December 2nd, 2006

pillsA medicine a day keeps the doctor away.  Or does it?  With the high costs of prescription medication now-a-days, keeping track of expenses for each medicine for every sickness and disease is worth it in the long run.  It is also not cheap.

Check this:  medicine to maintain blood pressure for one year, twenty two dollars;  medication to lower one’s cholesterol, seventy to two hundred dollars;  a miracle cure to help rehydrate a dry wallet, priceless.

Fortunately, saving money on the necessary medicines is now possible, sort of.   One method is by comparing costs from one pharmacy to another pharmacy.

This is really simple, sort of.  For example, calling three or more drugstores to find out the cost of atenolol would probably generate varying costs.  Kmart would have the price pegged differently from Walmart or CVS Pharmacy.

Asking around which store offers and honors discounts as well as the preferred insurers or employers of particular pharmacies - believe it or not, there are pharmacies who have specific preferences - actually works.

The key is in choosing the pharmacy store that is most affordable for you as well as convenient.  Also, do not forget which offers the better if not best service.

Another method is one that is provided by Walmart.  For instance, consumers in Lafayette – as well as in ten other states in the country - is now able to purchase generic medications for as low as four dollars.

Believe it or not, more than three thousand Walmart pharmacies is using a lower pricing generic plan.  The fact of the matter is that generic medicines have the same content ingredients as brand-name drugs, but costs a lot cheaper.

Therefore, struggling to pay is really no struggle at all, thus saving consumers the money needed for choosing better health and focusing on prevention rather than just the “expensive” cure.
