Refrigerator Shopping Tips
Yesterday I ended up calling the fire department after my home filled with smoke, and we couldn’t locate the source. Turns out my refrigerator exploded. We knew we’d have to replace it soon, we were hoping to replace the windows first. The best laid plans and all that….
So it’s time for some refrigerator shopping. This is our first foray into the world of fridge shopping, but not in shopping for large appliances. Here are some things I learned about getting the best deal on big appliances:
- The cheapest is not necessarily the best. Research brands and models. Read reviews and check trusted sources such as Consumer Reports. Purchase the most reliable brand, not the cheapest.
- Find the most energy efficient model for your money. You want to save money at home, as well as the store. Look for the Energy Star logo and read up on the levels of efficiency.
- Visit a trusted source. Joe’s Bargain Appliance Emporium isn’t necessarily the best place to shop for appliances. Go for the big name retailer.
- It’s not necessary to get the extended warranty. Most name brand refrigerators will last longer than the warranty, and the cost of repairs is generally cheaper than the warranty purchase.
Wish me luck!
