Natural and Cheap Easter Egg Dye
Did you know you can color your Easter eggs with natural items found around the home? That’s right, there are ways to keep your Easter eggs chemical free, and save money in the process. In many cases, you can boil the eggs with the coloring items, which also saves time. Here are some tips:
- As you boil your eggs, throw in some orange peels, the eggs will become yellow. You can also try this with carrot peels and tops.
- Boil the eggs with some tea bags or coffee grinds to turn your eggs a lovely beige color.
- The next time you cook frozen spinach, save the water. You can use it to boil your eggs, turning them green.
- Boil the eggs with the juice leftover from canned berries, turning them pink, purple or blue, depending on the berries.
- Boil the eggs with red onion skins to turn the eggs pink.
- Try rolling the eggs in various dark colored juices and condiments such as ketchup and mustard, which will also stain the egg shells.
Tip: Add vinegar to the water before boiling to allow the color to set.
Remember, our forefathers used plants and berries as dyes. As long as plants aren’t poisonous, and no one in your family is allergic, there’s no reason why they can’t be used for Easter eggs. Here’s wishing you a safe, healthy and happy Easter!
