Make your own Play Dough
I came across this recipe for making play dough while searching for some nice and inexpensive activites to do. I thought about posting this here in simplythrifty just in case somebody might be looking for one.
Here it is.
100 g Plain Flour
50 g Salt
150 ml Water
1 teaspoon Cooking Oil
1 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
Different Food Colouring
a. Mix 1-2 teaspoons of Food Colouring to the water and stir.
b. Mix thoroughly all of the other ingreadients in a saucepan
c. While mixing, slowly add the coloured water in step a.
d. Set the heat on low to medium. Keep on stirring until the dough becomes thick and comes away from the side of the saucepan.
e. Scrape the mixture onto a cutting board or any other smooth, flat surface
f. Soak the saucepan immediately
g. Let the play dough cool for 15 minutes.
h. Knead the Play Dough until it becomes smooth
That’s it! You got yourself a nice home made play dough.

My mom used to make playdough like that. You can also add the unsweetened kool-aide powder to make scented play doh-just make sure the kiddos don’t try to eat it (although it is non toxic, it probably isn’t great for you with all that salt!)

I’m sure you are better off eating this than eating regular play-dough. Thanks for the recipe; I’ll have to remember it.

Last year when I was teaching 2-year-olds we would make a big batch every month. We would make it our “color of the month”. The kids loved to play with it and it certainly held up better than the store brands.
