Make Your Own Doggie Rawhides

by Katelyn Thomas on October 30th, 2008

Well, I’m still pressed for time and haven’t been able to experiment as much with homemade dog biscuits as I wanted to, but I have something better to pass on. My neighbor gave me a big bunch of jumbo sweet potatoes. Each one could probably feed an entire family of four. So, as I was looking at different ways to use them up, I came across a mention of sweet potato rawhides. Sam’s Yams. Hmm. It made me wonder if I could make sweet potato chips that were extra dry in the dehydrator and end up with doggie rawhides.

And the answer? Yes, I can! Scrub those monster yams up, slice them thin (about 1/16 to 1/4 inch) and dry them on the veggie setting for a few hours. Nice, dense chewies.
