Learning To Craft
I did not come to this blog to teach. I am not a thrift guru. Think of me as a student on a journey to reach a higher level of enlightenment. I have to start somewhere, right? My posting may not always be the source of new and innovative thrifty ideas, as I am still a rookie. It will, however, serve to show some of you that even a shopaholic can learn to be thrifty.
That being said, it’s time to start the first class. I’d like to learn how to make gifts for people. My sister is so crafty and never spends more than a few dollars on her homemade gifts. I am not blessed in the craft department and usually end up buying some overpriced trinket for my family and friends, because of my deficiency. If any of you have ideas that a novice crafter can implement, please send me your ideas and photos . I will then attempt to make them and share those attempts in a post. You, the teachers, will grade me on my homework (after you stop laughing at how hideous they look.) Please keep the projects, simple and thrifty (duh,) as I do not have a lot of talent or funds to work with.
Like I said, I’m not a Simply Thrifty expert, but I’m willing to learn and share my journey along the way. Thanks for being my mentors!

Hi - 3 things I am kind of proud that I recently made…we used wax resist on flour sack towels and dyed them. Each family got their own name and some significant symbols from sports teams or whatever. We made beef jerky - the only people who didn’t get that gift were the vegetarians! I also made our own anti-plastic produce bags from scrap netting and yarn. I talked about all of these on my blog at various times…I consider myself a crafty person, but yeah, I usually get stuck in the ideas stage. I’m not so great at carrying them out! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures =)

I have some credits for hardcover photo books. They end up looking like the fancy creative memories books, but only cost $13.99 w/ free shipping for a30 page 8×8 size. Just let me know if you want some coupon codes. You do have to use them by August 8th. I made my husband a father’s day book filled with pictures of both boys and him. He loved it! I am making a bok for my mom now, of my grandma who passed away in 2000. :)

knit! it’s incredibly easy to make a scarf. once you have the scarf you can take a big scarf and make it into a tote bag (using ‘little scarfs’ for the handles) you can put a bunch of ’scarfs’ together to make a quilt. a thick scarf can be used as a place mat. another big scarf can be a table runner. another huge scarf can be used as a rug…I could go on…
