Last minutes shopping: Is it worth the long line?

by Deborah Ng on November 20th, 2007

This morning I ran out for a few things for Thanksgiving and I heard the managers discussing what time to start lowering prices on certain Thanksgiving items. One of the cashiers overheard and mentioned to me that she hates the day before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving morning because all of the prices are slashed and the lines are incredible.

So here’s my question to you, is it worth it to you to wait in long lines just to save a few dollars?

Just like Black Friday and Christmas Eve, shopping at the supermarket the day before Thanksgiving and even Thanksgiving morning can yield some cool bargains. For someone as impatient as me, however, those bargains just aren’t worth it.  I work from home full time, plus I’m a full time mom, why do I want to waste my spare time at the supermarket checkout?

What do you think? Worth it or not?

I’m definitely a bargain shopper. The thing is, I like to do it on my own terms. I know where the clearance items are in the stores; so I can get in there, look at what I want to, then get out.

I’ve done a couple posts about Black Friday madness (I tagged them under ‘productivity’ on my blog because of the loss of productivity from getting caught up in this). In a nutshell…I avoid it. As far as pre-Thanksgiving shopping goes…hopefully we won’t need to. I guess I’m impatient when it comes to grocery shopping too. I have my list, know where I want to go, and just want to get it done.

If you have kids or family waiting for you I wouldn’t bother, it’s just too stressful.

However, if you a tough one and happy to get stuck in with all the crowds then definitely go for it. It can be fun sometimes, well in strage way.
