Just flew in from Las Vegas…

…and boy are my arms tired.
Sorry.
Forgive my delay in posting. I was at the Blog World and New Media Expo in Las Vegas, learning some awesome tips to help me be a better blogger for you. Besides learning a lot about blogging, I learned when it comes to Vegas, you do indeed get what you pay for.
Cheap Hotel
I decided to save money by staying at one of the more inexpensive hotel and casinos on the strip. Really folks, it was bad. It stunk of cigarette smoke, the maid rarely came to clean the room, room service trays were left out in the hallway for days and the drunk, half-naked chick passed out in the hallway made me happy I didn’t bring my son. The upgraded room included a widescreen television which made no difference because there were only a few channels that weren’t about Las Vegas or that particular hotel. I ask you, how many times can one watch commercials for Blue Man Group or Tournament of Kings? Plus, I had to pay $12 a day for sporadic Internet service and had a charge on my final bill of $1 a day for local phone service, when I never even picked up the phone. Sorry, the bargain hotel was no bargain. I’d rather pay a little extra for better service.
Expensive Food
No matter where I ate, I found nothing under $10. Sandwich and water? $10. Salad and diet coke? $10. Pizza and a glass of wine? $10. And that was cheap food. If you want something good to eat in Las Vegas, you’re going to have to open your wallet just a little wider. Case in point: The buffet in my hotel was terrible. The buffet at the Bellagio? Worth every penny – and it costs more than $25!
I’m not complaining
I’m not complaining. I understand I’m in Las Vegas where money is the name of the game. I know it’s possible to to eat and sleep in an inexpensive manner. In my opinion however, it’s not enough to just survive. Sometimes it’s better to pay a little extra to truly enjoy yourself. Sometimes, when you travel on the cheap, you indeed get what you pay for.

I love Vegas! I’ve always been able to find great deals at the high end strip hotels or in Henderson–we try to go midweek and the rooms are usually under $100/night. Sign up for the newsletters for some hotels and you’ll also get great offers that include spa freebies, dinner credits, etc.

@SAHMmy@ I know there are deals to be had but I’m not one of those people who goes to Las Vegas often enough to get on everyone’s mailing lists. Good advice though.
@Gayla - Heh. No one ever plays rimshots after my jokes. They’re too busy groaning.

Next time, check out http://www.cheapovegas.com. They are pretty accurate in the descriptions and offer great advise on places to eat.
We live 3 1/2 hours from Vegas and have to go there for shopping every 2 months or so (we literally live in the middle of nowhere, Walmart is 190 miles away, Costco is 250!). I personally don’t like Vegas much, its dirty.
