I saved money by not buying newspapers

by Noel on August 28th, 2006

newspaperIn the late 90’s, we gave up newspapers. Not that we don’t read news but most of the news in the papers were all “negative”.

I guess negative news bring in more newspaper buyers than a paper with good news.

Aside from that, I’m always in front of the computer and news websites such as CNN is literally, just a few keystrokes away. Plus, their websites get updated faster.

When in the house, if there’s something important going on and we would like to hear more about it, we just watch news on TV. I’m a visual kind of person and thus I like watching the news instead of just reading about it.

If you do have internet access, you might want to consider giving up your newspaper subscription. Try it out for a month and see if it fits your lifestyle.

I just don’t have time to read a newspaper every day anymore. When I lived in the city, I just got all my news online or read somebody’s paper at work; I’d rarely buy a paper and if I did I’d go to the store where I could get it at half price.

Now that I bought my own house, I do have a newspaper subscription, but only for Sundays. Its nice to read something that is not on the screen, so I usually read the entire paper. The main reason for the subscription is that I can get the coupons and grocery store flyers out of it as well, before I go to the grocery store.

you are right! i save alot not buying newspapers but it only works when my husband is away from home for a period of time…he is a newspaper freak….and get this…he does not read anything but the date, the obits, and the sports page(s). over a 7 day week he spends $8 on papers he does not read. since i have not been able to convince him of the waste, i read the papers from front to back and when finished i recycle the papers in the garden and other projects.

blaine, nice idea about buying only the sunday paper just to get the coupons. Unfortunately, ours don’t have much coupons :-(

caryn, try barganing with him. 2 sports magazine a month in exchange for a daily newspaper. I hope that comes out cheaper. If not, well, at least you put it to good use by recycling :-)
