How to Save on Money with and on Vacation Rentals

by Noel on February 12th, 2007

vacation rentalsInstead of having to suffer the exorbitant rates of hotels and resorts, choose to have a vacation rental home instead. Although there’s no room and house cleaning services, you’ll at least save lots of money on the room rates and enjoy the advantage of having your own kitchen and living room.

Also, if you’re sure that you’re going to spend at least a week in your chosen destination then rent by the week. Weekly rates are always cheaper than daily rates, and sure, you might miss out on the free breakfast coupons, but if the cooking isn’t edible, it’s no big loss, isn’t it?

If possible, choose a vacation rental home that’s near the city or wherever it is you wish to explore most to save on transportation expenses. Secondly, choose a vacation rental home that offers you only the necessities; remember, you’re only going to stay there for a week or two so there’s no need to worry about having ugly drapes on the windows and the absence of a terrace in your room.

If you are traveling to a country where you’ll definitely stand out and everything about you screams “foreigner”, it’s better to allow your traveling agency to arrange for your vacation rental home. If you choose to do it yourself, home owners at your destination might increase the rental fee simply because you’re a foreigner and you don’t know you’re being overcharged.

If all you want is to travel and you don’t care about any destination in particular then choose to have a vacation rental home in countries where cost of living is lower compared to what you’re paying for at home. Or, choose the cheaper country in comparison to other countries in the continent. If you’re going to Europe, for instance, why not have a vacational rental home in Greece instead of cold, dreary, and absolutely expensive England?

I’ve rarely seen a vacation rental that’s less than a hotel. You’re paying for the luxury of a full kitchen, more room, and privacy. Most rentals tack on cleaning fees as well. Unless you have 5 friends to share the expenses with on a house, this is rarely cheaper than even a quality hotel.
