How to Go Green

by Noel on January 16th, 2007

go greenWhen people say we only have one planet, they’re not kidding.  In our solar system, this is the only one that’s capable of sustaining life.  We can keep it from becoming a dustbin by going green.  Here are a few ways:

Give a little.
Give back to the environment by eliminating incidents and opportunities to produce waste.  Energy is one of those.  Electricity isn’t free.  It requires tons and tons of natural resources to power our households and office buildings.  To keep it simple, turn it off and unplug it if you’re not using it.

Use your own scraps.
Composting is not rocket science.  If you were in grade school, you could have done it easily, so there’s no excuse now.  Reduce your contribution to landfills and create your own fertilizer.  If not, let the worms do it and try vermiculture.

Walk with the crowd.
Public transportation is really not that bad.  Try it once in a while, or use it on a regular basis.  You’ll save money on gas and car maintenance, too.  A low mileage will also equate savings for your insurance payments.  Walk or use a bike to get to work.

Mind the labels.
Many manufacturers are supportive of the greening of the planet so pick products that promote environment help as much as possible.  Energy-efficient stuff are a good start.

Turn phone trash to cash
Working cellphones that you no longer use are worth a few more dollars if you sold them.  Some companies offer cash or services for used mobile phones.

Dispose responsibly
Keep the maintenance work on your electronic appliances regularly.  Maximize their use by keeping them until it’s absolutely necessary to buy a replacement.  When it’s time to say goodbye, dispose of your e-goods responsibly.

Go veggie once in a while.
Give our two- and four-legged friends a break.  Reduce your carnivorous ways and watch the energy requirements and waste problems of industrial productions go down.  You not only save money, you also increase your health level by several points.
