How to Compost
Are you composting for your garden yet? My parents had a compost heap long before all this green living stuff came about. We threw all our egg shells, old leaves, watermelon rinds and lots of other organic material in there. Then we used it for the flowers and tomatoes. It really is the secret to nutrient-rich soil.
My husband and I started our first veggie garden in this house last summer. We didn’t start our compost pile then but we are now. I found these during my research and I hope they help you too.
I love Ed Begley, Jr. Don’t you?

Compost is awesome! My husband built a garden bed at our old house — it was in a rock-hard bit of dirt. He shoveled in a bin full of compost and a few bags of steer manure, and then he proceeded to grow the biggest eggplants we’ve ever seen. Compost is the miracle ingredient! :)

Right now no compost. But I’ve been researching kitchen style composts for potted plants. I’m thinking of buying a house in a year and then we can have a real compost bin again. I love that show Ed B is on, the green one? I can’t remember the name. The problem is, at least in WA, is that they keep changing the time so I never know when it’s on.

We’ve always composted at our house. We pile up the old dried leaves and things in a big wheelbarrow, and when it gets full, dump it on our pile.
