How to Commute by Bicycle in Winter

by Kevin Humphrey on December 20th, 2005

Commute by Bicycle in WinterThe start of the transit strike in New York City today has turned thousands of normal train and bus riders into walkers and cyclists during a time of year that doesn’t exactly make those kinds of activities enjoyable.

Days of Leisure put together an emergency bike riding how-to for folks in Gotham looking to get back on their steeds while it’s cold and snowy but I thought it might also be helpful for anyone looking to cut their transportation costs. In many parts of the world, some much colder than what most of us deal with, people commute and get around by bike all year round.

One cool tip I discovered in the how-to is to tape up the front vents on your helmet to turn it into a big stryofoam insulator. Check it out at Days of Leisure.
