Homemade Gift Ideas: Mocha Nut Balls
Let me give you another peek into the gift bags my son and I are making up for our family members. So far we have some homemade Christmas ornaments, a loaf of zucchini bread, some marigold seeds harvested from my garden, and yesterday we added Mocha Nut Balls.
I first made Mocha Nut Balls for my mother’s retirement party in August and they were a hit. They were such a hit several people stopped me to ask for the recipe. Let me share it with you today so you can try it and tell me what you think!
Mocha Nut Balls
Ingredients:
1 roll (18 oz size) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon instant espresso granules
1 cup finely chopped nuts ( I like pecans or walnuts)48 milk chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped
1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions:
- Heat oven to 375F. Break up cookie dough into large bowl. Add cocoa, espresso granules and nuts; mix well.
- Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Cool.
- Roll cookies in powdered sugar. Store in tightly covered container or zippered bag.
I started experimenting with the filling for these cookies too. Sometimes I use the chocolate Kisses and sometimes I use the Kisses with caramel which are a nice treat. I even add a small dollop of peanut butter instead of Kisses sometimes.
I hope you enjoy the Mocha Nut Balls as much as we do. If you make them, please let me know what you think.
