Greetings of the Season

I can take or leave Christmas cards. I know lots of people who go all out and send cards and newsletters to all their friends, and I think it’s great. Indeed, I send holiday greetings to my friends and loved ones as well. I do think it’s a nice sentiment to be remembered once a year. I’m not a Scrooge, I promise. My gripe is two-fold. First, I don’t have the time to sit down and write out and stamp Christmas cards. The second is once I receive all my cards, what do I do with them? It seems a waste to just toss them in the recycle pile after a couple of weeks, doesn’t it?

Last year I didn’t want to spend a lot on Christmas cards but I knew I didn’t have a choice. The problem was, I couldn’t find a box to justify the price. $8.99 for 16 cards? 10 bucks for 20? I don’t think so.

Then I had an idea…

I went to the basement and got out all the boxes with just a few Christmas cards left in them. Every time I wrote out cards in the past, I’d take the leftovers and store them with the Christmas stuff. Not only did I have enough cards to get me through last season, I had enough to get me through this year as well.

OK, so there’s a chance that some of the people on my list received the same card as they did in the past five or ten years, but so what? Who would remember what card I sent in past years? And frankly, what difference does it make if the sentiment is the same.

Planning Ahead

Today I came across a “bargain” Christmas table. Boxes of Christmas cards, 30 count for $3.99. I grabbed all three boxes. These are going to last me for the next few years.
