Giveaway: Couponizer

by Deborah Ng on April 21st, 2008

Couponizer

The Couponizer is an amazing organizational system for anyone who collects coupons. If you spend your shopping mornings going through your big old coupon envelope or sorting through your purse at the checkout line, you’ll want this handy tool.

The Couponizer is a small blinder filled with pockets all of your coupons. Each pocket is marked according to need. There are pockets for baking and staples, breakfast items, canned good - anything you need. Plus there are pockets for restaurants, the coupons that are about to expire, the coupons you’re about to use, even a pocket for receipts.

The Couponizer also comes with scissors, a carrying case, a coupon sorting mat, a shopping list pad and savings tracker.

One of the reasons many people don’t clip coupons is because it’s too much of a hassle, The Couponizer makes it less of a hassle. Once a week is all it takes to organize your coupons and then all you have to do is keep The Couponizer in your glove compartment and purse.

The Couponizer retails for $18.00 and is well worth the price.

I have to admit, my coupons are a ss, so this would be great.

My money-saving tip is a simple one for anyone with a wood stove or fireplace. I make my own firestarters by stuffing toilet paper tubes with dryer lint. They work amazingly well, and we save mor emoney by using Biobricks in our stove instead of wood. They burn hotter than wood and you just need one homemade firestarter to light them–no kindling necessary. Plus, they are carbon-neutral, which will save more than money in the end. Happy Earth Day and thanks for the giveaway.

I could sure use this! I have a hard time keeping my coupons organized and this sounds like it would help solve my problem. My best tip is shopping the sales (especially buy one/get one free items) and using your coupons. I always do both, and have saved up to half on my grocery bill. The last time I shopped using my “technique” I got $120 worth of groceries for $60, and you sure can’t beat that.

I shop many different stores. I cut coupons and then watch them go on sale on the store flyers(usually a week after). Double savings! :) I love the coupon book. It would fit perfect in my purse and look at lot nicer than the envelopes I use.

I think the best tip I can offer is one everyone knows: Buy low. Stockpile.

Beyond that, get good at the pantry game! So what if you don’t have peas for that pea and basil salad? Make a broccoli and basil salad instead. So what if you don’t have chickpeas for your soup? Make it with pinto beans! Be brave and don’t be intimidated by your lack of ingredients.

My money saving tip - do not let the husband go to the grocery store! I sent him with a list that should’ve been about $40 worth of food, and he came home with everything on the list, plus $40 worth of junk (chips, soda, ice cream). He thinks we “need” all that junk. Ugh!

Thanks for the giveaway - I could really use something like this!

  • Robin

My best advice is to buy the best, most natural food you can afford and then use it wisely. Buy a whole natural chicken and make a roasted chicken dinner. Then use the leftovers to add on top of tortellini alfredo or make chicken noodle soup (or both).

Use up leftovers, even small amounts. You’ll be amazed at how much less food you need to buy.

Also, look for managers specials (usually meat that has a same day expiration date) in the meat isle. Last week I got six packs of organic, boneless, skinless chicken thighs for under $2 a pack. When you see the managers specials grab them up, freeze them, and then plan next week’s dinner around them.

We all know food prices are rising. It’s time to start using what we buy very wisely.

My best money saving tip is to use both coupons and sale prices at the same time! Cut out ALL the coupons you might possible use. Even if it’s not your usual brand. For example, lotions, you always see coupons for different brands of lotions. Cut them all out. And then when you see a brand that you have a coupon for on sale, grab it, even if you don’t need it right then! Stock up!!!

    I could really use this!

I’ve eliminated our need to purchase garbage bags by reusing the plastic grocery store bags we get every time we shop. I bought an inexpensive cabinet door apparatus that holds the bags open. Why buy bags when everyone is giving them away for free?

This looks so great!! I have to say the most practical way I’ve learned to save money is with the grocery budget - by making a menu, a shopping list, using coupons and taking a calculator to the store. Oh, and paying with cash only.

Sounds like this would be a great help. I stock up on things when they are on sale and I buy a lot of my pantry staples at the nearby Middle Eastern market where they are dirt cheap. Farmer’s markets often have great product for good prices as well.

We save a lot of money by buying a 1/2 cow every year come tax time. I call up a local farmer and we always get a great deal. It seems like quite a bit of up front cash, but this year I spent around $600 for somewhere around 330 pounds of beef. So, roughly $1.90 per pound for everything from very lean ground beef to T-bones and roasts. My money is also staying local and I know how these cattle are raised, treated and taken care of.

WOW cool organizer. Boy do I need organizing. My money saving tip is always buy on sale and use coupons. I love finding coupons and I have my girls practice with their scissors cutting them out. They are getting really good now, at first only have them practice on ones you don’t really need.

  • AJV
    Apr 21, 2008 at 10:12 am

Since my coupon organizer is an envelope that rips after a couple of weeks.

One thing I do is I check out the sales in the weekly flyer and (if there is time) check websites of high price items that are on sale that I need to buy and get a coupon from the company website, usually you can print them out.

Here are a few of mine:
Use plastic grocery shopping bags as bathroom wastebasket liners.
Save the wrappers of stick margarine to grease pans, etc.
Save bread ties to use to close food packages.
At Walmart, price match ads and use with coupons to get items cheap or free.
To save gas, do as many errands as possible in one trip and roll down the window instead of using air conditioner.

I NEED THIS! I spend a lot of time organizing and reorganizing. It’s worth the extra time with the money I save. My fav tip is to cut every coupon possible even if you don’t think you’ll use it. Then watch the store ads. When something goes on sale or the store offers a coupon, you can combine the store offer with a manufacturer offer to get the item for little or nothing. Even though you don’t need another bottle of shampoo, your crazy to pass up the $0.25 price! You’ll use it eventually!

A lot of stores give you money back for using your own shopping bags, which also saves the environment! And buy in bulk the things you use a LOT of, this saves a lot of money in the long run! Hope I’m the lucky winner of this, I could use a new one, mine’s raggedy!

My best money saving tip is asking if there are any coupons or discounts available at this time at any business. A lot of time they will honor expired coupons or codes. I used this several times at Land of Nod with email codes that had expired the day before I use coupon code. I also have used it for Lands End. Another tip for shopping online is using “retailmenot.com’s” coupon codes!! It’s awesome!

  • Michelle

My best money-saving tip is to plan my meals around items that I can purchase in bulk and save money. For example, Costco sells huge packages of mushrooms for much less than the little packages of mushrooms sold in the store. If I were to purchase a large package, but not use them all, money would be wasted. Planning a diverse range of meals over several nights that all use mushrooms, just makes good cents (grin!) For example, I might make beef burgundy, stuffed mushrooms, use them in salads, or make a chicken casserole. This also makes good sense if you are puchasing herbs, which can be expensive, yet you only ever seem to need them for one dish. Other items might include red peppers, chicken (though you can purchase a lot of this on sale and then freeze the extra), eggs for baking, etc.

There are so many money savign tips out there, but one of the best is buying bruised fruits and vegetables. They just came out with an article stating that slightly over-rip fruit and vegetables have more or certain healthy nutrients than when they are fresh.
I use them to make salsa, tomato sauce, fruit salad…I just cut around the bruised over-rip parts!

Oh, my coupons really need a new home!

My money saving tip is to make my own baby products. I have always made my own baby food (steam veggies and blend, then freeze in ice cube trays), but it took me four babies to decide to make my own baby wipes. There are many recipies for wipes out there. I haven’t invested in any essential oils yet, so mine just have baby wash and baby oil in them. You have to experiment a bit with amounts depending on what paper towels you use. With Viva big roll I use 2 c water, 2T baby wash, 2T baby oil. With any other paper towels, I have to use less.

  • Tracy Holder

I buy my meat in bulk, like a side of beef. It cost less in bulk and you get better cuts of meat. You get soup bones with the beef. You can make vegetable soup from any leftover vegetables you acumulate throughout a month by keeping a tupperware bowl in the freezer and putting all your leftover vegetables in it as you go.

I really need this, I have so many coupons to organize, it’s driving me crazy and my family crazy. My family keeps telling to get the coupons out of the way or they end of throwing them away before I can get to them. I have to be fast to get them. I look for money saving coupons where you can get $25 off if you purchase $75 worth of items and if I’m lucky they may also have BOGO at the store. I was able to get an outfit for my mom worth $200 for $20 because of clearance, coupon, and BOGO.

    I was so excited!

    Great giveaway! Thanks for offering!

My best tip is sort of an add on to what’s already been said. I like the idea of buying in bulk and using coupons to get free or nearly free items when used in conjunction with sales. But as a small family of four, I’ve found that the all the low cost items I stocked up on, if I didn’t use them up all up, I ended up tossing them. My advice is to be realistic about what you need. 10 items at 20cents is a good deal, but if you can only realistically use about 2-3 items, wouldn’t it be better to save that extra $1 or so. I think it adds up in the long run! Just my two cents. As a couponer, the organizer sounds great!

First if you have a coupon……use it and see if they can be piggybacked!

Second if you have a product that you like, find the website and email them giving them a compliment (or a complaint if the need be) and they will usually send an FPC or some kind of coupon.

Buy only what you NEED, we waste so much money on stuff we don’t NEED.

ps. always take cloth bag for groceries and even little mesh ones for produce, bulk items, etc. Earth day is Tuesday!!

  • Kristie Belding
    Apr 21, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Grocery stores and manufacturers are always pulling sly ones over on shoppers. If you collect a coupon the item will usually go on SUPER SALE within 2-3 weeks. Most shoppers miss out on the deals because they are too impatient to wait for the REALLY good SUPER SALES. These usually pop up under dollar or buy one get one sales that happen after the big push sales. I’ve noticed CVS and Walgreen sometimes clean up right after the main stream stores have their sales.

For those of you who get one. Put your newspaper coupons to work by swapping with others. On average we discard over 3/4 of the inserts because the products in them do not appeal to us. I spread mine among budget crunched friends.

Check out the free online sites like Cool Savings, Sheknows, various manufacturer sites and banner ads pay off. Freestufftimes.com is consistently a good source of free samples and coupons.

    Good hunting guys!

  • Theresa Shafer

    Best tip is
    1. clip coupon.
    2. Use frequent buyer card
    3. buy one, get one free
    4. pay with credit card with rebate.
Combined you get a double, triple, quadruple the distance out of your dollar.
    5. Save upc’s off of the products when the manufacture has rebates / free gifts / point redemption or maybe entry into a contest .
    6. Save receipts to use with Upromise College 1-25% ave 12.5%

Yet one more way to continue stretching that dollar. Making your 1 dollar work like 5.

    EXP:
    100 original bill

    BOGO = 50 savings
coupon est of 20% of cost = 10 min saved
    Frequent buyer 1 % = .50 min earned
    Credit card rebate 1 % = .50 min earned
    UPC point 1% = .50 min earned
    Upromise 1 % = .50 min earned
    Total saved = $63 min earned/ saved so 100 cost 37. OR almost 1/3.

I have once walked out with the groceries costing me zero. Coupons ONLY. SO rebates & points & Upromise was free cash up and beyond cost. They ended up paying me to buy their products that day.

My best money saving tip is to educate yourself on how to beat the system. Except for edible and perishable items, I do all of my shopping at CVS (stockpile & giveaway items). There, I receive Extra Care Bucks for certain items which I am then able to turn around and use to buy more items. Basically, I get stuff free, on CVS’ tab! It has saved me SOOOOO much money!

I shop for the products that are on sale in the local flyer each week and with the coupons I have saved for that product. The best time is when the store has double coupon weekend. That isn’t very often but sure helps. I once purchased over $100. worth of groceries for $15. I like to stock up my pantry with all my savings.

My tip is this: only clip coupons for products you actually use. We spent so much money on products that I thought were neat because I had a coupon for it … it ended up not saving us anything. When I started only cutting out the coupons for items we already use (or already wanted to try), I noticed how much our bill went down.

Compare size to price, to get the best deal according to weight/number of servings per dollar. What might seem to be the better deal price wise, sometimes turns out to not be so much the best buy, when it comes down to how many people one can feed for the money.

  • Rodney K

  • Melissa

My money saving tip is to cook as much from scratch as possible. Avoid convenience foods. I also shop for my pantry/freezer for the most part and plan my meals from there, rather than planning my meals first and then shopping for those items. It’s much easier to take advantage of sales that way.

I stock up on kid’s toys, especially when they are on sale. Then when we are invited to a birthday party, I don’t have to rush out to get a gift. My daughter and I make the birthday card, and we reuse gift bags or come up with another creative way to wrap it.

  • Stephanie Chance

I also make gifts whenever possible. A nice crocheted belt might cost $5 in material and a few hours of my time, but would be so much more appreciated than a store bought one.

    Great idea!

Since getting into blogging, I’ve been reading about a lot of different money saving tips. One is to use baby wipes a second time. We cloth diaper, but once in a while need to use disposable wipes. It makes me feel better because I’m not being wasteful for the environment, but I am also saving money by not buying them as often.

Buying in bulk and freezing meals can also save you money. Just make sure it is cost effective!

I organize in my sleep. This would be great for me.
I’m always cutting coupons and organizing them.
For one month and all three meals we used all sorts of free coupons to buy one dinner get one free etc. We spent less on food in that month than I normally do when I shop weekly.
Of course we can’t live on coupons but it was an interesting challenge.

Instead of making the same recipes in season and out, use the things that are in season and on sale at your favorites stores.

If you aren’t familiar with the ingredients, or you want a new way to prepare them, consider using a website like
    http://www.supercook.com/index.asp

to get more ideas. Super Cook can be used as a guest for a one time recipe idea, or you can sign up (for free) and enter all the items you keep on hand in your kitchen, then highlight the ones you want to use to get recipes that include them.

I doubt that my tips are particularly original but here you go:
    1. I always make a list, detailed, for the grocery. I divide everything into the sections of the store on the list as well (dairy, freezer, cans, etc). It cuts down time in the store and keeps my eye from wandering down aisles/sections that I don’t need to.
    2. Buy generic on the things that don’t matter to you. I can’t taste the difference between generic and name brand most of the time.
    3. Buy local, in season and freeze whatever you don’t need for later (this doesn’t work all that well with my itty-bitty freezer but some day I hope to have a stand alone freezer).
    4. Set a timer for your shower (you’d be amazed how much time you waste in the shower and hence on hot water).
    5. Shower with someone (I’m still trying to make this more time efficient… if distractions weren’t so easy!) :)

Make a menu and shop from the list of what you need. As well try and go meatless for a few meals a week. Does you good and saves you money!

I buy meat in the family size even though it is just my sister and I. Then I use a scale to portion it down to 1 lb sizes and seal with my FoodSaver. Another thing I’ve started doing is making milk ice cubes. We never go through all our milk before it goes bad. Then I have milk frozen in ice cubes for baking. I use the Handi-Vac system to vacuum seal the baggies of milk ice cubes to keep them fresher.

Lastly, when I have something free after rebate and also have a coupon, I try to buy it at the grocery store where the coupon will double. Worst case, I buy it at Walgreens, CVS, WalMart, etc. But getting a double coupon on a mfg. rebate item is a way to maximize the profit. :)

I only buy whole chickens; throw them in the crockpot for 4 hours, then pull the chicken off in 2 cup increments for freezing. Save the chicken broth - it’s sooooooo good for cooking rice or potatoes in.

Other good ideas are menu planning and coupons - but I am LOUSY with the coupon thing because I don’t have this system!

My best money saving tip is to find a grocery surplus outlet near you. We have two–one run by a Mennonite family and the other run by the Amish–and let me tell you, there is no way we’d be able to eat as well as we do on as little as we do without it. They have tons of organics, lots of interesting foods we might not otherwise try, and the stock constantly changes.

My parents could use this! I would say that one word of advice is to stock up on things that are on sale. Join a site that points out coupon/store sales combinations, and store, store, store! My best advice? Make a shopping list that includes enough food breakfasts, lunches, and a week of dinners. Then stick to the list while you’re shopping, buy store brands, and use your coupons. You’ll be eating out less, making those extra shopping trips for a few items less, and you’ll have a choice of what to make each night instead of not knowing and dialing for pizza. Also, I like to bake my own cookies, bread, and make freezer packs of veggies in the summer to last throughout the year (great in casseroles and soups). For baby food, I puree our leftovers and freeze them in single servings. In general, I’ve found that if I’m more careful with our groceries and cooking, then we end up saving money and eating healthier. It’s also less stressful for me when it gets close to dinner time.

Well.. I’m trying to learn more about saving money. We do a lot of the typical ones : Shop in club pack sizes when they’re also on sale (when meat ends up being like $.99/lb that way, or you get 25 rolls of toilet paper for $6!)

We cloth diaper, which is enormous savings.

When I cook, if I can stretch the ingredients to double the recipe to freeze a meal (or find a way to incorporate leftovers to stretch a meal, I’m pretty good at that) to reduce it’s cost and have a night off from cooking!

I’m trying to learn more about the whole CVS deals thing people talk about.. but it still totally baffles me!

Oh! And for the kids clothing, at the end of the summer season I buy things on the clearance rack from $1 - $3 an item for the next year. We can outfit our 5 kids for less than $100 each year! That way we can afford to buy them good, supportive shoes at Striderite (which I also only buy when they have buy 1 get 1 half off)

  • Melissa
    Apr 21, 2008 at 11:30 pm

What’s saved me the most money? A Two-Week Menu. I sit down, write out what we’re going to eat for dinner for each night for 2 weeks (don’t forget to take into account special nights (anniversaries, birthdays, baseball/soccer games, etc.). Then next to each dinner item, I list the ingredients we need to have on hand to make it.

Ex: Lasagna: lasagna noodles, pasta sauce, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, eggs; garlic bread; salad ~ lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, salad dressing.

then I print the list out and look through the coupons ~ 1) what do I already have in the pantry? cross it off; 2) do I have coupons for any of the things I need to buy? put a star next to it so I don’t forget; 3) I use WinCo as my main grocery store, but sometimes the other grocery stores have sales that beat WinCo’s prices, so I watch those prices, too.

At the bottom of the Two-Week List, I have the “we always need” list: eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, sandwich meat, sour cream, cream cheese, cold cereal, bacon, four, sugar, etc.

There are still little runs to the store in between, but our grocery budget is way down from what it used to be.

    i hope I win. i hope I win.

What a great coupon organizer! Where do you sell it? My best money saving tip is to reuse, repurpose and recook. Reuse sauces, veggies and leftover meat in casseroles or stews. Repurpose - I have used towels for wiping dishes and counters for years - older ones that are no longer good enough for the bathroom. Saves on paper towels. Recook - cook extra tomatoes down into the base of a soup or sauce. Cook extra onions and peppers down for a terrific summer sandwich. Freeze or can as much as possible!!! Fresh is ALWAYS better.

This is one of my biggest problems with coupons, this looks like it is a great way to organize them. One way that I save money is buy buying my drinks & snacks in bulk at the grocery store. Then I bring a cooler with me anytime we are going to be gone longer then an hour. The kids always get thirsty & drinks are $1.50+ each at gas stations, etc. Saves a lot of money + whining from the kids that they are thirsty or hungry. Also, not really a money tip, but I use one of those canvas bags that the grocery stores have been selling for .99 lately to keep snacks in the car all the time. Keeps them all in one place & I don’t have to worry about remember to grab snacks each day.

Focus on big decisions and money. Don’t worry about things like .50 cent coupons until you have attacked much bigger decisions like getting raises, canceling cable, selling cars, insurance deductible, etc. As I grow, I realize that the energy I waste trying to get a few extra penny cheaper gas zaps my energy for way more important things. The positive net money outcome from focusing on bigger issues has been amazing.

I guess it helps to be organized, though, so sorting my coupons into one of these organizers would certainly help me!

Oh, and another thing I just discovered. . . . I buy the foaming dish soap for doing my dishes. But the refills are so expensive. I finally just bought regular dish soap, squirt 5 times into the empty dispenser, add water, and VOILA, my own refill for a FRACTION of the cost! Hope that helps someone! : )

My money savings tips include getting the children to shut off lights & the tv when they are not using them. We have also taught them that the water doesn’t need to run the entire time that they are brushing their teeth or washing up. I was actually surprised @ the difference in the bills. Thanks!!

I gave up on coupons because I lacked the ability to find a great way to organize them. I loved the rush I got when I saved, but it was such a hassle to dig through all the coupons and then realize the coupon I wanted to use was expired. This sounds like something for me!!

I always take my coupons, because I have seen “in-store” special that was not in the paper. Also before I check out I re-look at everything in my cart and ask myself..”Do I really need it and is it a good deal” Sometimes I put stuff back.

Currently I am a week behind in organzing my coupons and my idea for coupon organization is keeping them in envelopes which is not working.
My thrifty idea is to make weekly menu, shop for grocery items according to that.Dont go grocery shopping without a list. Also I wait for my stores to triple the coupons, that way i can stock up on non perishables.
I would love to have the coupon organizor. My email id is deeptisidana@yahoo.com

I always loose my coupons then find them after they have long expired. I usually shop at Aldi’s grocery store which has became a life saver. I also buy store brands which are sometimes even better then the name brand stuff. I usually look for deals at stores where you buy one item get the other free . I also go to the walmart website and fill out for free samples. I don’t think I will have to buy toothpaste for a long time since I have so many free samples.

I shop 2 grocery stores each with for the specials that I have matched up with my coupons. And I plan my menu around what I have bought….I save on average half!

My best tip is a simple one: compare prices. Often smaller shops like Big Lots and Ollies will carry the same merchandise as the bigger chains for half the price!
