Frugal Easter Basket Ideas
Don’t feel like spending $5 on yet another Easter basket? You don’t have to! Here are some great Easter basket alternatives. Some of these can be found at the dollar store, and some are already in your home.
- Dollar store baskets.
- Kids can decorate paper bags.
- A dump truck.
- A beach bucket or pail - You can find some for a dollar or less at the dollar store or discount mart.
- Children’s hats - Construction & fireman helmets or straw Easter bonnets can be found at the party store for very little money.
- Large Tupperware containers.
When it comes to Easter baskets, you’re only limited by your imagination. Kids can make their own with paper bags and construction paper, or you can find items around the house that will do just fine. The Easter bunny won’t mind, I promise.

My mother always had us make and decorate our own baskets. I remember sitting with my older brother learning how to weave stips of brown paper in and out around each other to make a basketweave paper basket. As years went by, they became more ornate as we tinkered with the idea. Not only a great use for those grocery bags AND recycle friendly… to this day I can whip up a sturdy basket in about 15 minutes for emergency gift giving!
My mother loved it because she figured that if he and I were to fight, she would much rather the battle be between who swiped the last “good” length of basket material then who got to watch what on tv.
Mom always was the sneaky one. (lol)
