Dusting Off the Appliances

by Deborah Ng on March 2nd, 2008

bread machine

My basement can be a fun place to explore sometimes. We still haven’t opened a lot of the boxes put down there when we moved almost six years ago. Today, my son found the bread machine.

I totally forgot we had the bread maker, which is funny when you consider I used to use it often. Both my husband and I feel there’s nothing to compare to the smell of fresh baked bread. I used to make a loaf before work and I would come home to the most incredible smells.

I promised my son we can make some bread today. Now that I remember the bread making machine, I’ll be sure to use it often.

I should resurrect mine, too. I used it for Thanksgiving last. My biggest problem is that it’s so darn good, I feel like I have to eat a whole loaf. Oh, the intoxicating aroma!

I love homemade bread. My mom is famous for her homemade bread, but she doesn’t use a mixer. She does it the old fashioned way. I love technology! :) Our basement is full of treasures too. lol We moved in 2 years ago. I’ve been selling some of our treasures lately though. I’ve made over $600 in the past few months. The extra money has been nice.

I have been baking almost all of our bread for the last couple years. You’re right - the smell is amazing! I use the bread maker quite a bit, but lately I have been making lots of loaves of the no-knead bread (I blogged about the recipe last week.) It is so delicious! Today I saw the same type of bread in a local deli selling for $4.29 a loaf!

I just got a bread machine through a fellow freecycler, but I haven’t used it yet. I’m looking forward to it, though. I hope that I’ll be able to make bread good enough to please my picky husband.

My mother gave me my bread machine two weeks ago, and I have made four loafs.

Two were really bad, turns out I was miss reading the measuring spoons. There really is a big difference between tbs and the other one that starts with T.

I love my bread machine. I use it at least once a week. I used to use it more often, but for the last few months I have been making a no-knead bread in the oven that is super easy and turns out WONDERFUL, so I don’t use the machine as much. Good luck with your bread baking!
