Decorating a child’s room the frugal way

by Noel on August 19th, 2006

The first step would be to pick a theme. This is easy, if you’re a parent, you definitely know what your child’s interests are. (Not unless of course if your child is just a few months old). If your child loves trains, airplanes, butterfiles, or a cartoon character, then make sure you include it in your design.

One way to drastically change a room without spending too much is by using paint. Paint it with bright and happy colors. One tip for choosing paint color is to make sure you buy paint that works well with your existing beddings.

To create interesting stuff on the wall, try searching for “coloring pages” and just print items that match with your theme. Get some crayons and color it yourself and then cut it out and stick it on the walls. If you are a bit of an art person, you can create a bigger version of these coloring pages. Just imagine your child seeing a big car or a big butterfly on the wall. You might also want to leave an area where your child can stick his/her own artwork and call it “the wall of fame”.

For window treatment, try using flat sheets from discount stores and use it as curtains. If you have old beddings that have damages on some parts, you can cut out the damaged portion and you can bring it to life as a curtain.
