Build your own heat blocking curtains and save on airconditioning costs

by Noel on July 28th, 2006

heat blocking curtains

During summer, specially on those cities like Las Vegas where they do get to experience temperatures of 90F above, air conditioning becomes a necessity. The biggest amount of heat usually comes from windows.

If we could somehow block heat from coming in through our windows, the air conditioning units won’t consume much electricity to keep the room cool. This will translate into big savings in our electric bill.

There exist those hi-tech windows with films that would enable light to pass through and reflect heat. However, there is a cheaper way to achieve the same effect, that is to build your own heat blocking curtains.

If you own a car, you might have seen or used one of those silver heat reflectors that you usually place on your dashboard when you are going to park your car for a long time. The technology is basically the same.

I found a project at instructables with a step by step instruction on how to build one for yourself.

Check out instructables for the procedure.

hey this is great I am going to the store and getting some of the items and doing it right away. I live in Florida and it gets freaking hot, like dang hot. This idea will help my family a great deal.

    Thank You
    :-)
