Banish the Junk!
Here are some ways to return some simplicity to your life. Banish the junk! And by junk, I mean the junk telemarketing phone calls that interrupt your dinners and all the junk that fills your mailbox with yet more offers of easy credit and excessive insurance. For folks in the US, there exist some avenues of relief from these constant irritations.
In regards to the telemarketers, you can register your phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry. A couple of loopholes that you should be aware with the registry though. The list only banishes companies who do not have a prior business relationship with you and charities and political organizations are exempt from the list. Registering your number will not completely eliminate the dreaded droning sales pitch, but it can help significantly reduce them.

In terms of all the crap overflowing your mailbox, Americans also have the option to cut back on the number of pre-authorized credit card offers and insurance pitches that they receive. OptOutPrescreen.com is the official web site of the Consumer Credit Reporting industry within the US and it provides you with the opportunity to opt-out of firm offers of credit and insurance. Again, this won’t eliminate it all, but at least it can provide some relief.

Every little bit helps!

I have a trick for the annoying calls too - I am on the list to not call, but some still get through - the loophole they use is that if you have purchased something from them or a company related to them then they can call you. *sigh* Well, there is a solution. I bought a telephone that has a way to “end the ring” - it is a button beside the caller ID window. If I don’t recognize the number, I end the ring. The caller thinks there is just no answer and I can just forget about it. Eventually they give up and you fall off the list.

Adelle - That sounds like a cool button! I used to try and be nice to them but now I just inform them that I’m not interested, take me off your list please, and if they don’t listen, they get hung up on.
