It’s been going down to the 40’s at night here in the Northeast. While we’re not quite ready to turn on the heat, it’s a reminder that the cold weather will soon be upon us. Whether it’s weather proofing your home or cozying up to your honey, Simply Thrifty is pleased to present you with a list of
50 Things You Can Do to Stay Warm This Autumn
- Snuggle up to your honey
- Crochet a sweater
- Install a wood stove
- Invest in a few space heaters
- Take a long, hot bubble bath
- Install energy efficient windows
- Knit a hat
- Close the doors to rooms you’re not using
- Make a denim jacket
- Install weather stripping
- Install a gas fireplace
- Whip up a batch of mulled wine
- Check your furnace’s filter
- Wrap yourself in an afghan
- Make sure your house is properly insulated
- Take some exercise videos out of the library
- Open all the window shades and let the sun shine in
- Make a sheepskin coat
- Make some hot chocolate
- Bake some cookies
- Wear your flannel pajamas
- Make an appointment to have an energy audit
- Seal up the cracks in your windows with caulk
- Have yourself a hot toddy
- Enjoy some crockpot cooking
- Cover bare floors with inexpensive area rugs
- Wear nice warm socks
- Wear your slippers
- Use lots of blankets on your bed
- Indulge in a cappuccino
- Pop corn and roast marshmallows in front of the fire place
- Watch TV in bed

- Visit a friend who isn’t as chintzy with the heat as you
- Spend lots of time in the kitchen

Great list (except the warm milk — yuck). The energy audit is a great one because I think more people need to know that they can do that. Also I love 49! And the tomato soup — my favorite cold weather food (with grilled cheese of course).

Make big pots of chili and heat the house with the stove. Your going to cook anyway might as well turn down the termastat and cook.
