10 Ways of Saving Money and Energy for the Year 2007

by Noel on January 29th, 2007

save energy‘Want to save on your bills for this year?  Then better take a look at these energy-saving guidelines:

1. This advice is age old but still true—use fluorescent lamps (preferably those with the Energy Star label) instead of incandescent bulbs or even halogen lamps.  These fluorescent lamps might cost just a bit more but they last longer and they consume 75% less power.
2. Clean your air conditioner’s filter regularly and be sure to replace it monthly.  The monthly replacement could save you 1% on your yearly bill.
3. Even if you are using energy efficient lamps, be sure to turn them off when they are not in use.
4. Fix any faucets that have leaks.  Although you only see droplets wasted, in actuality, one week of drips could fetch you a bath!
5. Be sure to turn off any appliances that are not in use.  Appliances that are on standby still consume electricity.
6. For gadgets that need charging, make sure that you take them off the outlet or charging plates when the charging is done.
7. Adjust your thermostat for 1 degree Celsius.  This should be enough to take off 10% off your bill.
8. Still on your thermostat, be sure that it is not set higher than 60 degrees Celsius.  A lower temperature is sufficient to heat up your water.
9. Be sure to set up electric timers for all of your lighting equipment.  Invest on dimmer switches.
10.  Close your curtains for the east, south and west areas at summer daytime.  This should keep out the heat during this season.
